The Role of Industry Associations in the Promotion of Sustainability and CSR
This study examines how sustainability is advanced through industry associations and where government can support associations in the promotion of sustainability and CSR among their members. Study findings document the current activities of seven Canadian associations and point to strengths and opportunities for improvement. The report also proposes sustainability roadmaps for industry associations and government interested in helping Canadian companies on their sustainability journeys.

The Convergence of Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility - Thought Leaders Study
Corporate governance reform efforts of the past decade have bumped into decade-old efforts to mainstream social and environment responsibility of corporations and a growing awareness that firms’ off balance sheet environmental and social impacts can have tangible financial consequences. This encounter has fueled a debate regarding the degree and nature of convergence between corporate governance and corporate social responsibility. The Canadian Co-operative Association, interested in promoting good governance and social responsibility practices to its member cooperatives, sponsored Coro Strandberg to conduct an international thought-leaders study on this convergence issue.

Draft SRI Continuum: From Limited Social Change to High Social Change Impact
There is an emerging continuum from SRI “lite” to SRI deep, as chronicled in the study, “Future of SRI”.  A further evolution is that SRI firms are expected to model the kinds of practices they require of their investee companies. This model is an initial attempt to scope out this continuum, from the perspective that firms with a more robust SRI value proposition will be able to compete more effectively in a crowded SRI market.  This project is funded by Ethical Funds Inc.

HBC Ethical Sourcing Case Study
HBC established the foundation for their ethical sourcing program in 1998, when they established a Code of Vendor Conduct (CVC).  Their program has evolved since then into a broader Social Compliance Program (SCP), which was formalized in 2001, containing the CVC and a monitoring and remediation process, the overall goals of which are to improve factory conditions, educate buyers and share industry knowledge.
